Patierno's woodcuts brim with an intoxicating authenticity from a life lived in rural PA. He loosely draws directly onto the block & then works out the rest in the carving.  They are primarily pleasant, at times even giddy with joy, which makes the measured unsettling of his otherwise wholesome Americana all the more palpable.  He is a keen & sometimes satirical observer from a persepctive he has called "the funnel of art history", which is perhaps why his critiques, dynamic mark-making & compositions embody a timeless, appealing relevance.

RP was the first artist to complete a solo project wtih Totemic17 which is aptly named PATIERNO.  Click on the thumnails in the "totem" for details.  The prints are offered individually ranging from $75-$600.  The complete set is $4,000 in a custom archival clamshell or framed for an additional $3k.   It premiered in November-December at the historic Bronxville Women's Club just north of NYC.

Patierno's prints, paintings & drawings reside in the permanent collections of the Frans Masereel Centrum Pour Grafiks, Kasterlee, in Belgium; the Erie Art Museum; the Lancaster Museum; the Southern Alleghenies Museum of Art in Pennsylvania; the U.S. Department of State, Art Bank; & those of many universities.  As this is written, 3 of his prints  are on view at the Maier Museum at Randolph College in Lynchburg VA & 25 of his works are included in a major exhibition at Cental Penn College, Harrisburg, PA.  The Musselman Library at Gettysburg College recently showed some of his works in their apse & acquired 3 prints for their permanent collection.

As a founder of the Pennsylvania College of Art and Design, Patierno spent more than two decades developing its Fine Arts Department, as well as chairing it before leaving in 2003 to devote himself to making art.
